CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Aymeric de Borel
Canon: Final Fantasy XIV
Age: 32
Suitability: Aymeric would learn to function well enough. Though he’s from a stuffy pseudo-catholic elven society, he’s pretty adaptable. The news would come as an absolute shock, but through grit and level-headed determination, he would find which was was up. He would treat the people around him with politeness and caution, as any seasoned politician would. He would do all that he could to maintain his dignity, but eventually let his own desires slip once he became comfortable.
Species: Elezen- Essentially a tall elf with a fairly long lifespan.
Canon Point: Post 3.3- Most current update as of April 2017
History: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Aymeric_de_Borel
Personality: Aymeric is a pragmatic idealist. He is driven by his need to protect people and uncover truth. The truth of his own blood-family and the history of his nation were shrouded in secrecy for a very long time. This was the initial thing that drove him climb ranks in the military, but he found more reasons as he went. He has no love for power struggles or bloodshed, and by placing himself at the highest office of the military, it affords him the power to put ideas into policy.

He is religious, as is typical for his people, but he also approaches his faith pragmatically. He has read the scriptures closely, finding discrepancies in how his countrymen act in their fervor and what the purpose of the scripture is. Though he will solemnly make sacrifices and take risks, he does so under calculation. He will not endanger the lives of his people recklessly where others typically would. He views each life as precious and equal to his own, willingly going into combat when needed.

He is known as kind, but practical, humble, but competitive. He is a very keen fellow, paying attention to the people, details, and situations surrounding him. He admires strength, courage, and sacrifice for the common good. He is loyal to his country, his soldiers, and his people. He will step up to the plate to make intensely difficult decisions. When his closest, long time friend posed imminent threat to the city, he was willing to make the sacrifice of killing him.

Though he can come off as cold at first, it is possible to earn his favor and friendship, which he expresses warmly and freely. He is very honest about his emotions, and sometimes allows this to hijack his better reason. He does not hold grudges easily because he has an open mind, a willingness to understand complex situations, and the ability to restructure his understanding of his world.

Although he holds the highest office and has access to the finest foods and luxury, often does not indulge because he knows his men cannot have these things. He allows himself one simple luxury: birch syrup for his morning tea. In turn, his soldiers respect him immensely and their morale is often salvaged by his choices.

Aymeric is a person who takes responsibility and works very, very hard. As a result, he rarely sees his own home. He also seems to have a penchant for wine as he confidently asks the player-character to drink with him. Once they do drink, he has three enormous goblets of it- and keeps his wits fully about him. Later when he sees the player-character again, he offers wine though it is ostensibly midday and he is absolutely still on duty.

For all that he is about duty, honor, truth, and valor, he also knows that the small things in life are what make life worth living. He has drinks with his friends, he puts syrup in his tea as a small indulgence, and he holds dearly to his friends and allies. He's very thoughtful and intellectual at heart, but has adapted to his cruel circumstances over the years. As a result, he is difficult to be shocked into inaction.

Abilities/Weaknesses: He is proficient in archery and swordsmanship. In the midst of battle, his opponents comment that his endurance is unreal. He is charismatic and very handsome, which others have noted in their compliance with his requests. However, he can be very naive in his pursuit of his ideals and wind up in trouble. He tends to want to do everything himself and finds it difficult to fully turn others down. This leads to him overworking himself and placing himself in prone positions. He cares too much for his own good, and has only been spared out of sheer luck. He can be bull-headed and ignore very good advice when he gets an idea in his head.

Unfortunate erotica reading

It was nearly morning again when Aymeric got back home. After the day he had, he decided that the straw-filed mattresses in the barracks would not simply cut it. He closed his eyes tight for a moment as he trudged home, picturing the glass of wine he would pour for himself. He nearly tripped up the stairs as he crossed out of the hellish cold into his hearth-warmed home.

He gazed dumbly at the clock in his foyer for a moment, trying to understand that it was truly almost five. He was startled out of his daze by a loud, pleading meow. He looked down at his cat, and his cat back at him. It let out another creaky meow as Aymeric made his way to the kitchen. He was sure his manservant would have fed Lord Byron…

It would be worse if the cat went hungry, he decided. He pulled a slab of game bird from his ice box and slapped it on the counter with less coordination than usual. He pulled a knife from its drawer and made quick work cubing a breast. He slid the meat into a little bowl and served it to his feline companion. He grinned at his fat, ancient cat as it scarfed down its supper.

“Full glad I am that you haven’t changed at all, Lord Byron. A man needs his constants,” his eyes drifted to the heavy wooden door in the middle of the kitchen.

He would brave the spiral staircase. It was for a good cause, after all. He pulled the door open and descended the terrifying set of stone stairs. He realized too late that he had not brought a candle flame, deciding instead to grope for was nearest to the bottom of the stairs. As he made it back up to his kitchen, he felt his legs begin to fail him. How long had be been awake parsing documents and proposals?

He popped the cork and looked at the bottle for a quiet moment before convincing himself to get a goblet. He had not slipped so far as to drink from the bottle. He pulled a metal goblet from his cupboard, the thing feeling much heavier than it ever had. He shrunk down to the floor, overcome with exhaustion. He poured himself a glass in his dimly-lit kitchen, savoring it briefly before he passing out on the stone floor.

Character Details
Canon Point: Post 3.3
Species: Elezen, which is really just your garden variety Elf, but less long-lived. All Elezen from his part of the world have some dragon blood in them that under very specific circumstances could allow him to transform into a dragon.

revision request: Through ritualistic drinking of dragon’s blood and incantation he would be able to turn into a dragon. This ritual would be able to be performed on him against his consent. He himself does not know the incantation, and up until very recently this was the highest crime in his land. The punishment would involve torture, inquisitors, a death sentence, and then investigation into everyone related or associated with that person.

So it would still hold a very high stigma and be culturally traumatic for him although the war with the dragons is over.

However, it is possible that this now could come up in game with Ysayle being a factor. Aymeric had never met Ysayle, nor consorted with anyone with this knowledge. This has never been an option for him before, and one that I have not fully considered. I think if it were do or die he would consent to it.

The dragons they become are fairly small and seem to be flightless due to the low potency of dragon blood in them. They tend to have flat human’s teeth and are more often than not have body organizations closer to a man than a lizard. The ones we see are able to use lightning or fire aspected attacks. We do see those that have completed the ritual are able to change into a dragon at will.

I am open to this being something that he does or doesn’t have access to.

Timeline of Important Events in Canon History:
  • Adopted at birth by the elderly, childless Borel Family.
  • Entered the Temple Knights by 22. Kills his first dragon and makes his best friend, Estinien, on a mission that killed all of his comrades.
  • Heard rumors about his real father, the archbishop and continued to ascend in military rank to get closer. He gets to the very top as Lord Commander of the Temple Knights.
  • The Archbishop makes a grab for god-like power, locks Aymeric in prison when Aymeric tries to speak to him about the conspiracies surrounding the thousand year war, and then gets bust out by the Warrior of Light.
  • Continues to try to resolve and end the Dragonsong war, a failed assassination attempt is launched on him.
  • His best friend is possessed by the ghost of a murderous dragon. Aymeric makes an attempt on his friend’s life for the safety of his country, fails.
  • The player character exorcises and defeats the dragon ghost. Aymeric brings him back into the city and the war is over. He is then voted into high office in addition to his military position of Lord Commander.
    Personality:
Aymeric’s two leading motivations are to preserve the lives of his countrymen and seeking the truth. He is the (poorly kept) secret bastard son of the Church’s archbishop, whose role is more akin to a pope-king. He is the Lord Commander of his city-state’s military. Because there has been a holy war raging for a thousand years in Ishgard’s religious oligarchy, his position there lends him enormous power and influence. Through his many accomplishments, he has risen through the ranks in spite of the social stigma against him. Throuout his life and this path he has been on a mission to find out about his estranged father and later the conspiracies surrounding the war.

It is possible to earn his favor and friendship, which he expresses warmly and freely. He is very honest about his emotions, but does not let them hold precedence over logic and the bigger picture. He does not hold grudges easily because he has an open mind, a willingness to understand complex situations, and the ability to restructure his understanding of everything.

He tries to cut his losses, but will place himself in harm's way if he thinks it will tilt the odds. Likewise, he keeps his eye on individuals that he feels will do the same. This is what initiated his friendship with Estinien.

For all that he is about duty, honor, truth, and valor, he also knows that the small things in life are what make it worth it. He has drinks with his friends, he puts syrup in his tea as a small indulgence, and he holds dearly to his friends and allies. He's very thoughtful and intellectual at heart, but has adapted to his cruel circumstances over the years. As a result, he is difficult to be shocked into inaction. Unfortunately, this means that of the reasonable people, he is sometimes the last to be swayed.

Ultimately, Aymeric is loyal to the people, and loyal to what he thinks will be best for them and Ishgard. Which, even if it might not be the easiest path, or one of least resistance, he will tread it and bring those along with him who might not be so willing at first. His resilience in such is astounding, but even with assassination attempts, arsons, and the slandering of his own name did not make him question his stance on what was right, or make him falter in his goal.

    Abilities, Magic and Supernatural Skills/Afflictions:
As an Elezen, he has an excellent sense of sight and hearing. He is a trained, true shot with a bow and a highly competent warrior with a longsword.

    Dragon & Magical Element
    Elemental Alignment:
Element1 - With Aymeric’s willingness to be mutable, his need to be swift, and the absolute force that he can put behind himself he is very much like the wind. He’s trained with the bow and arrow, and has taken easily to dragon-riding in his canon.

Element2 - Aymeric is clear-headed, fair, and pure of intent. He acts above board, even when it is dangerous. He is an inspiring beacon of a person, and is consistently drawn closer to the light. He seeks clarity and truth in all things.

Element3 - The most consistent thing about him is how grounded he is. He is an immovable, enduring force. He is patient, strong, and reliable. Like the dirt itself he is humble, supportive, and with the means to nurture great things.

Dragon: As an adult, it will be a two-winged largish-standard sized, white wyvern. It will have interlocking scales like a venomous snake and a long neck. This dragon will be capable of flight and able to be ridden. It will be rather elegant and appear very aerodynamic. The wings will connect down the body like a bat’s would. This dragon will have an omnivorous diet, but prefer fish and fruit.

The egg will be about the size of a softball and leathery in appearance. The egg will be white, flecked with yellow.

Personality traits inherited from Character Bond:
  • Calm level-headedness
  • Courage
  • A strong sense of duty to the greater good

    Second Sample:

With adventure in his heart and a tiny, hungry wyvern on his shoulder, he headed out to find something his new companions would like. It baffled him that the creature ate only morsels of meat from his plate. For days he ate what Aymeric gave him, but he seemed to grow tired of it after a while. He thought that perhaps it had a tiny appetite, but grew worried with the dragonet’s low energy.

He considered the market, but it was almost overwhelming with choices. He thought that it may be overwhelming for a tired, hungry dragon as well.

Dragons had to forage and hunt, didn’t they? They were here before the markets. There had to be something sensible! He noticed a woman with a fishing rod and decided to follow her on a whim. After a small hike, they came upon some docks. He was woefully underprepared to fish as he assessed his things. Just a small knife… It would have to do.

He moved to the water’s edge, looking over at the fish swimming in the clear water. His dragon perked up with the smell of salt and the darting of the fish.

This was stupid. How was he going to stab a fish. Had he a bow and arrow, it would hardly be an issue. Had he not spent his money so quickly, the bow and arrow would already be in his hands. He considered going back to the market to spend his last bit of money on a fish as his dragon leapt and splashed into the water. The dragonet floundered in the water for a moment, hooking his talons into a fish nearly the same size. The fish thrashed and pulled, only slowed somewhat by drag of the wyvern’s wings.

Aymeric feared the worst as he dropped his knife and reached into the water shoulder deep, taking hold of his dragon and the latched fish. He kicked himself as he watched the knife sink out of reach and view, but figured the knife of far less value than his dragon’s life. Once the dragon was clear from the water, Aymeric stuck a finger through the gill to hold the fish. It gasped and gaped as the dragon tore raw strips of flesh. His tunic quickly became spattered with blood as he laughed with absurd joy.
